OHPP came about because our founders decided to take a stand.
OHPP came about because our founders decided to take a stand.
The Bentley community was starting to suffer from neglect in a harsh economic climate so, instead of just enduring it, in October 2000 founder, Denise Birkett, grabbed the bull by the horns and set about making a difference.
As one of Walsall's most historically deprived neighbourhoods, Bentley, has a proud tradition of looking after its own, so Denise followed that tradition and, as part of a local housing group, took over a struggling youth club on the Old Hall Estate.
Success in reigniting that project led to other opportunities to make a difference in Bentley and soon OHPP's influence as a force for change was being felt across Walsall.
Youth services, gardening and handyman services, furniture collection, pensioner centres, a lending library, guidance counselling, fundraisers, training programmes and a vast array of community activities were all soon part of the OHPP offering.
Soon the charity was being talked about across the region as a force to be reckoned with and, because of the multiple kinds of efforts OHPP was making, the charity was being celebrated as an example to aspirational charities across Britain.
We talk lots about the charity throughout this website, so there's tons to read and learn, but on our contact page is a list of our main people and their areas of concern, so you'll know who you're dealing with when you get involved with us and our endless noble causes.
